Issue #7

In Our 7th Issue:

  • 😊 50 ways to be ridiculously generous
  • 🎵 A podcast episode you won’t forget (Our first ever Podcast link – we don’t take this lightly!)
  • 🍴 A cheeky website to find great recipe ideas
  • 📚 Jeff Bezos on how to minimize regret

by Alexandra Franzen

We realize this headline sounds very “Buzzfeed-y” (Not quite as bad as the actual Buzzfeed headline: 17 Parenting Tips From Professor Utonium of “The Powerpuff Girls”).

Upon reading we think you’ll agree, it’s actually a very thoughtful and insightful compilation. As with most of our articles, this one comes from an independent blog (not a clickbait machine).

Key Quote: “I realized — many years ago — that when I behave generously, I feel rich. And I like to feel rich. So I choose to be generous.”

Favorite Example: “Arrange a luxurious gift for a public school teacher. A concert pass. A nice bottle of wine. God, they need some love.”

Understand this: we don’t take podcast recommendations lightly. We’re not like your coworker who texts multiple links to three-hour-long Joe Rogan episodes and expects you to listen that same day. Your time is precious, so know that our podcast recommendations come with the highest level of vetting.

This episode of Reply All is less than 1 hour, and it’s one of the few podcast episodes I’ve ever listened to multiple times. I heard it 2 years ago, and still smile every time I think about it.

To ensure no spoilers, we’ll just leave you with a simple description: A man in California is haunted by the memory of a pop song from his youth.” Hope you enjoy!

A crass website for finding great recipes

Worst case scenario – this site will make you laugh.

Best case scenario – you’ll laugh and end up with a delicious dinner you’ve never made before.

The concept is clear once you click the link, bon apettit!

Whatever you think about Jeff Bezos, this video has some great advice on making big life decisions. At the very least, watch for a few seconds to see how much of a dork he was 15 years ago (He’s still a dork, but maybe a tiny bit less since he got jacked and went to space).

We’re obviously big fans of newsletters, so let us recommend one of the best in the game – Morning Brew. A couple points to highlight: It’s totally free, and gets you up to speed on business, finance, and tech in just 5 minutes.

There’s a reason over 2.6 million people start their day with Morning Brew — the daily email that delivers the latest news from Wall Street to Silicon Valley. Business news doesn’t have to be dry and dense…make your mornings more enjoyable, for free.

Poll Question of the Week:

But wait! First, last week’s poll results:

Surprising results on this one! We suspect the question was too simple and people interpreted it differently.

We don’t have any hot takes here, but I’m sure you can find a few dozen think-pieces on it after the recent Daylight Savings bill passed in the Senate.

This Week's Question: 🐔

I prefer __________.

And that’s a wrap! If you have any comments, suggestions, recommendations, or just general feedback we’d love to hear from you! Email us at brooke@pearlrunner.com and we’ll include our favorite comments in next week’s edition (and maybe in our Instagram feed 🧐). Thanks for reading and have a great week!
