Welcome to Pearl Runner’s 12th Issue! First order of business, our favorite quote this week:
by Tim Urban (from the Wait But Why Blog)
We’ve posted a few articles from Wait But Why, and that’s no accident. Don’t be fooled by the cartoon drawings, it’s absolutely some of the most interesting, entertaining, practical and engaging writing on the internet.
This post is an all encompassing guide on how to think about picking a career for yourself. Already well into a career? Then it might even be more relevant for you. I try to revisit it every year or so when I’m ready to re-assess my career path (and my life path in general). The Sample is a fantastic tool for discovering new writers, newsletters, and content of all sorts. When you sign up, select your interests and how many emails you want to receive (daily, weekly, etc.). Based on your inputs, they’ll curate a list of newsletters you’ll find interesting, and send them at a frequency of your choosing.
I’ve already found some amazing writers, art, music and newsletters that I never would’ve known about because of The Sample, which is a feat close to Pearl Runner’s heart.

We’ve all had the experience of coming across something you did a few years ago, and getting swept back in time. It can be eerie, intense, and sometimes wonderful to spontaneously fall back into what was occupying your mind in the past. Consider this website basically a generator for that feeling.
How does it work? Simply write something to yourself, pick how far into the future you want to see it, and enter your email address. Eventually, you’ll get an email from yourself with the letter you wrote. It’s an amazing way to see how you grow over time and watch as your focus and interests change.
I just wrote my first letter this week, and I look forward to being embarrassed by my current self a year from now 😊

I absolutely love books, movies, and TV shows that weave a story to keep you guessing for the entire duration, then leave you with your jaw on the floor at the final reveal. I just finished this book a few days ago, and still can’t stop thinking about all the twists and turns.
If you’re in the market for a mystery thriller set on a European ship in the 1600’s, I can’t recommend this one enough!

First, last week’s poll results:
Well, you’ve spoken, and the results are messy at best. I guess we can’t expect a clear-cut, definitive answer when dealing with life’s most complex and important questions 🤔
